EVALUATIVE REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT – TELUGU

Introduction:

The Department of Telugu was started in the year 1954 in this college. Dr. Bitra Bhavanarayana was the former Head of the Department of Telugu. Many students studied Telugu as one of the subjects, in the curriculum. After his retirement many Professors worked in the Department and maintained the quality of the language. Dr. R. Lokaiah Naidu was formerly the Head of the Department of Telugu. He also served as a Principal in charge for one year.

1.Faculty Profile – adequacy and competency of faculty

At present the department has three Vacancies in the regular scheme. But there has been no recruitment since 2008. management staff to engage classes for both I and II years.

Dr. N. Eswaraiah is dynamic and efficient and has been regularly conducting competitions like 1. Oratorical 2. Essay writing thus Providing Platform for the students to home their skills in Telugu Language.

He has been organizing Literary meetings “Andhra Vignana Samithi” every year celebrating the enrichment of Telugu Language. He conducts class seminars and Quiz ompetitions based on the syllabus .He has been encouraging students to involve in creative work.

The Department of Telugu is three tier i.e B.A, B.Sc. B.Com. At U.G level Student's strength should be around 30.

The Total strength of the students (2010 -11) in the department is 50 out of which the girls are 9 and boys are 41. one of the welcome features in recent years is the growing number of girl students leading to, in near future, gender parity in the student mography.

3.Changes made in the course or programmes during the past two years and the contribution of the faculty to those changes.

Since our institution is affiliated to University of Madras, we are following the curriculum and syllabi framed by the University of Madras. The department is writing letters to the Board of Studies, University of Madras to change the content of the syllabus, testing and evaluation Pattern on the basis of getting feed back from the present and outgoing students.

One of the welcoming features in recent years is the growing number of students choosing Telugu as their first language and their interest towards the language is appreciated. Every year students show their brilliance by getting through their Examination successfully.Dropout rates of students are reduced completely by paying special attention to the needs of such students.

5.Learning resources of the department – library, computer, laboratories and other resources.

The department has a separate library with more than four hundred books including reputed journals for the benefit of both the faculty and the students. The management allocates money for the purchase of books so as to increase the educational resources for the benefit of the students.

6.Modern Teaching Methods practiced and use of TCT in teaching learning.

The faculty members of the department have significantly altered the teaching methods.Faculty demonstrates by drawing on the black board and introduces chart method for better comprehension.

7.Participation of teachers in academic and personal counseling of students.

Besides, the regular working hours, the faculty member in the Telugu department participates in the academic development of average students by conducting tutorial and remedial classes. Meritorious students are being encouraged by suitable rewarding them personal counseling is given to the students who face problems like dragging, learning inability etc.

8.Details of faculty development programmes and teachers who have been benefited during the past two years.

The faculty member Dr.N.Eswaraiah attended two International seminars held at the University of Madras.

Dr.N.Eswaraiah has been a member of board of studies in Tamil Nadu University, Tanjore for the past two years.

The Department is planning to collaborate with the Departments in the city of Chennai.Thiru. Rajkumar (IAS) the principal secretary and chairman is invited to give lecture on the enrichment of Telugu language. This interaction provides a wide platform to encourage the students to involve themselves in productive activities.

Faculty member creates awareness among the students about the emergence of new avenues of employed both in government and in private concerns. opportunities for employment in various sectors.

13.Plan of action of the department for the next five years.

The management of the institution evinces a keen interest to offer a bachelor’s degree programme in Telugu after getting an approval from the University of Madras and Government of Tamilnadu. We strongly believe that this task will be accomplished in a year or two.

The Telugu Department is trying to improve the quality of students by conducting seminars to bring out their latent capabilities. The department is concerned with the task of transforming students into productive persons useful to the nation.
