INTRODUCTION
The department of Botany was established in the year 1979-1980. Botany as a major subject offered for B.Sc., with optional subject along with Zoology as allied subject
1. Faculty Profile – Adequacy and competency of faculty
There are five faculty members. The faculty members are extremely talented and competent approach from the end semester results, participation in Botanical conferences and Indian science Congress conferences were regular activity. They also participated in various, national and international seminars and presented research papers resulting in the publication of the research papers.

At present the admitted student strength in the department is 53 of which the girl students are 16, and boys 37. at the entry level most of the students come from poor family, even first degree in their family/generation candidates are also admitted, who hail from economically weak section of the society from North Chennai area.
3. Changes made in the courses or programmes during the past two years and the Contribution of the faculty to those changes
Since our institution is a affiliated to university of Madras, we adopt the curriculum and syllabi framed by the University of Madras. The syllabus has been changed one time during last two years from semester pattern without internal assessment to Choice Based Credit System with Internal Assessment. Keeping in view the student’s conditions and their socio-economic status efforts and special interest are taken to improve their learning process of the students.
4. Trends in the success and dropout rates of students during past two years
Special care was taken by the faculty members to increase the success rate of the students. As a result there is an increase in the pass percentage. Special attention was given to minimize the dropout rate. The trend in quitting the college was reduced due to parents and students counseling by the faculty members highlighting the importance of higher education
5. Learning resources of departments – library, computers, laboratories and their resources
In our department we have a library with more than 800 books, which include reference books, text books and journals for the benefit of students and staff members.
6. Modern teaching methods practiced and use of ICT in teaching- learning
Our faculty members not only use black board but use Power point presentations for teaching using the LCD projector for the benefits of the students.
7. Participation of teachers in academic and personal counseling of students
Beyond the academic work the faculty members take special care and attention and do counseling to the personal needs of the students who come up with certain issues
8. Details of Faculty development programmes and teachers who have been benefited during the past two years
Prof. M. Dhanasekaran, HOD and Associate professor, attended a short course on IT for IT Teachers conducted by the ICT academy, Govt of Tamilnadu.

The faculty members are academically active in participating various seminars and conferences conducted by various organizations. They have participated in the National level and also International Botanical conferences and presented Research papers of their respective field

Several students got employment in the schools, Pharmaceutical Industry, Private labs etc.

Staff Details
Student from BSc Computer Science won 1st prize in Quiz Competition held at Pachayappa College.
Dr.A.Rajendran and his research Assistant Miss.M.Priyadarshini presented research articles in the 2nd National Conference.
