The P.G. and Research Department of Zoology is an edifice with a glorious history written on its walls. Its scriptwriter was an all time great teacher, researcher and administrator Dr.G. Madan Mohan Rao. He was the founder Head of the Dept. of Natural Science, when the discipline of Life Sciences was introduced along with a host of others on the inception muhurat. Dr.G.Madan Mohan Rao officiated as Principal Sir Theagaraya College between the years 1972 and 1975.

The Venkateswara building housed the Natural Science Department, which offered the intermediate course to start with. Soon, in 1957 affiliation for B.Sc. zoology Major was obtained and the Department has moved to Manali Srinivasa Mudhaliar Buildings with Laboratories for Pre University and B.Sc. Major Classes. Pre Medical and PUC classrooms were located in the N.R.S.C. block. In 1971 Natural Science Department has moved to an exclusive three stored Biology Block to make way for the newly affiliated courses.

In 1979-80 Botany Major has started and this has necessitated the bifurcation of Natural Science Department into Zoology and Botany Departments with exclusive space utilization.

The two Departments finally got established in the present complex with 3 laboratories, 2 preparation rooms, 2 museums, 2 store rooms, an instrumentation room, an exclusive research laboratory, a library, 4 faculty rooms, and 8 lecture halls, besides an Animal room and rest rooms.

In about 25 years time, the vision of Dr.G.Madan Mohan Rao blossomed into one of the most attractive training centres duo in Zoology and Botany in the college campus, with excellence, perfection and pride.
